The firm was active in three sectors Building Motor and Electrical. Each brother was responsible for a department.
Patrick O’Shea managed the building department. Through a combination of determination, ambition and resourcefulness he succeeded in developing the business through the economically challenging decades of the 1930s through to the 60s to command a significant presence in the Cork area.
O’Sheas Builders are responsible for constructing some landmark buildings in the Cork area at the time, such as, Dennehy’s Cross Church, Cork School of Music, and Cork Opera House.
Patrick was succeeded as Managing Director, in the mid 60s by Aidan O’Shea, his nephew.
The firm’s status was enhanced during his tenure (which overlapped the prolonged economic recession in the 1980s), by completion of a significant portfolio of public buildings (Cork City Library, Cork City Fire Station, Restoration of the English Market) ,Schools (CBC, PBC, St Mary’s Convent Bandon) and Churches (Extention and re-ordering of North Cathedral, Togher Church).
The current MD is Michael O’Shea, Aidan’s son. In 2005 O’Sheas Builders expanded and relocated to new premises in Kilnap, where the head office, joinery workshop, and plant storage yards are located.
The firm continues to operate successfully across many sectors and has enjoyed significant growth in recent years.
